Every day you wake up, get out of bed and get ready for your day. Maybe you go to the gym or maybe you hit snooze till the absolute last moment possible.
So which one are you? Do you make time for fitness and self care in your day?
What is it that drives a person to put out that extra effort?
What is it that motivates someone to keep at it day in and day out?
As I am one of those crazy 4:30 AM wake up and work out people, this seems to be a question that pops up regularly in many of my conversations. Personally it all comes down to routine, commitment and passion. My favorite part of every day is walking into a quite, un-crowded gym and taking a moment to be completely selfish and do something that is just for me. This is my "me time" and for that hour I have no one to answer to, my phone is away and work couldn't be further from my mind.
Now I haven't always been this way. My passion for fitness started just over 2 years ago with a desire to change. I wanted to feel better (and maybe look a little better in the process too).
My first step was making a plan. What were my options... what could I afford, what was I physically capable of doing and most importantly what was my goal?
Then I had to create a new routine, one that had time set aside for me to commit to specifically working towards this goal. They say it takes about a minimum of 8 weeks to make a new habit and once that was set the rest was pretty easy.
Once I found the time in my day that worked for me I just had to find something I Wanted to do and pretty soon my goal turned into a passion and now it is definitely a lifestyle. Running, biking, yoga, weight training... it doesn't matter what it is... I know that I will always feel better at the end of my work-out.
Life is so full of commitments and obligations why not find something that you love to do. Something that helps you grow, that helps you get find that little piece of sanity in a hectic world. It doesn't matter what time of day it is... morning, noon or night, don't we all deserve that little bit of a break?
So then what is it that motivates you?
